Residents oppose Lymm rugby club’s major expansion plan

PLANS for a major redevelopment of Lymm Rugby Club’s ground at Crouchley Lane, Lymm, are to be presented to planning chiefs at Warrington on Wednesday.

They include construction of a new purpose built clubhouse, multi-sports facility, four tennis courts, a 3G playing pitch, conversion of the existing clubhouse into four residential dwellings and construction of 10 new houses, together with landscaping, infrastructure and engineering works.

Fifteen letters of objections have been received, mainly from people living in Manor Road or Crouchley Lane  and there has been an objection from Lymm Parish Council.

The main objections relate to parking issues in Crouchley Lane where, objectors claim there are existing problems which will be worsened further residential development.

There are also worries about late night social activities, the scale of buildings having a harmful impact on the Green Belt, loss of privacy, noise, dust, glare from floodlights, etc.

The club has more than 60 letter of support – but residents claim these are mostly from people outside the local area.

Lymm Parish Council appreciates the club needs improves facilities but objects to all building within the Green Belt.

Planning officers acknowledge that the development is inappropriate in the Green Belt – but are recommending approval because of special circumstances.

  1. What are the ‘special circumstances’ that allow a company to build on protected, green belt land? Even the information provided by the rugby club states it’s to expand. Expanding your business shouldn’t justify building on protected land, if it does, will the council just accept every companies request to build on the green belt?
