Residents fail to block nursing home expansion plan

NEARBY residents failed in a bid to block expansion proposals at a Stockton Heath nursing home.
Warrington’s development management committee approved the proposals despite objections from 10 neighbours and Stockton Heath Parish Council.
The decision means the Arlington House nursing home in Ackers Road will be able to add five extra additional bedrooms, bathroom facilities, and a kitchen store.
In addition, an existing coach house can be converted to provide offices, a hair salon, storage and training rooms.
The neighbours objected on the grounds of inadequate parking in a road already an accident blackspot. They also claimed the scheme would have a detrimental effect on a conservation area and  result in cars parking in Ackers Road and Hill Top Road.
The parish council complained the development would have an “overbearing nature” which would result in a building out of character with the locally listed property and the street scene.
Changing the use of the coach house would be likely to lead to an increased noise nuisance for a neighbouring property, to which it was attached.
They believed there would be a loss of privacy for neighbours and an increase in parking and traffic problems on nearby roads. But planning officers  recommended the scheme be approved.
