“Elf and safety” message from the fire service

A WOEFUL tale of an elf on a shelf figures in a Christmas fire safety campaign spearheaded by Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service on social media.
The unfortunate elf has to watch from his shelf as a fire takes hold in his home after a lit candle falls over.
The safety message is that smoke alarms should be tested – particularly when candles are in use.
The short, animated film will be passed on to Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service, who will, in turn, nominate another fire and rescue service.
It is hoped that enough services will join in the social media campaign to ensure there is a different seasonal safety message every day throughout December.
Cheshire’s head of prevention Nick Evans said: “This is a great initiative to spread safety messages in an innovative way. By so many fire and rescue services taking part we can be sure of clear and corresponding information being given out not just in Cheshire but across the country in a bid to reduce accidental fires and increase road safety over the Christmas period and, we hope, beyond.”
