M62 collision at Winwick causing lengthy delays

UPDATED 8.45am. A road traffic collision on the M62 Westbound carriageway at Junction 9, Winwick, caused lengthy traffic delays which impacted on Warrington during rush hour.

The road traffic collision took place at junction 9 between the slip roads, closing two of three lanes with traffic tailing back to Junction 11 at Birchwood. The westbound carriageway is now full re-opened.

But the knock effect caused lengthy delays on Winwick Road heading into Warrington, with reports of stationary traffic for up to 50 minutes.

Seven vehicles were involved in the incident and two people suffered injuries requiring treatment by paramedics.

One of the vehicles contained an acetylene cylinder which required checking. Fire crews from Warrington and Stockton Heath were involved in the incident, as were the police and Highways Agency.
