LIVEWIRE is to introduce a new library management system at all libraries across Warrington this month which will enable members to access more services online.
The new system is called KOHA which means “gift” in Maori. It will offer an improved service to both staff and customers with a more intuitive interface and the ability for staff to access the system outside of libraries at community events.
One of the key benefits to the public will be that from the launch date any future items library users borrow will be recorded so they can be view their own borrowing history both in libraries and at home.
The new system will be available to the public anywhere via the new Libonline web interface.
The new website will be fully optimised for mobiles and tablets and will allow people to search the library shelves from home, as well as renewing their books online.
All current users, their books currently on loan and current reservations will be seamlessly transferred to the new system but LiveWire cannot take any “personal lists” created on the current library website. Users can e-mail these lists to themselves and then recreate them on the new Libonline where they can then share their lists with friends.
On August 16, the day before the new system goes live, there may be some disruption to library services as LiveWire close down the old system, but libraries will remain open and staff will be on hand to help users and answer any questions.
The new system will be up and running from August 17 and users will be able to checkout, return and renew books as normal.
