Thousands speak out on policing and crime

THOUSANDS of residents have “joined the conversation” to give Police and Crime Commissioner David Keane their views on policing priorities as he begins drafting a new Police and Crime Plan for Cheshire
Over the last six weeks residents, stakeholders and police officers and staff have been able to give their views at dozens of roadshows and events run across the county, or online through the Commissioner’s website.
Mr Keane – also a borough councillor at Warrington – said: “Getting out and listening to our communities was my first priority on coming into office and I have been delighted with the response from the public, partner organisations and the Constabulary’s officers and staff.
“I have found that there is a real appetite and interest to discuss ideas for the future of policing in our great county. Myself and my team have spoken to thousands of residents, which when added to almost 2,400 on-line surveys and feedback from partners provides a great insight into what matters locally.
“Visible policing, based within our communities, is a strong message that I have been hearing along with the importance of having local officers and PCSOs who can build relationships with the people they are serving. Anti-social behaviour, road safety, drugs and the police’s role in protecting young people have also been consistently raised.
“I would like to take this opportunity to say a huge ‘thank you’ to everyone who has taken to time to get involved – it has been great to hear what you have to say.”
The Commissioner and his team will now spend the rest of the summer analysing all the surveys and responses, before drafting a new Police and Crime Plan, setting out the Constabulary’s priorities.
Mr Keane added: “On drafting the Plan I will seek the advice of the Chief Constable, and others, before undertaking a further public consultation for six weeks this Autumn on a draft version to ensure the Plan reflects the needs of Cheshire’s communities.
“I will then publish a final version in December.”
