GRAPPENHALL leapfrogged Weaverham to move back into second place in the Vivio Cheshire County League division one.
It was an important match to win if Grappers are to achieve their aim of bouncing back into the premier division at the first attempt and they invited the hosts to bat first on what looked a good wicket.
Gas Burns struck early but after that found wickets hard to come by as Weaverham looked well set on 87-1. But Ryan Ninan bowled economically to take 3-32 and Albert Pennington chipped in with 2-61. Even so, some late hitting enabled the home side to reach 216-8.
Grappers’ reply started well with openers Adam Roylance, 43 and James McCoy 67, putting on 115 in 20 overs. They both then fell in the same over but Peter Barnes, 38 and Ninan , 41 not out saw the visitors home at 217-5 with eight overs to spare.
There was a welcome win also for Grappenhall 2nd who dismissed Brooklands for 122, Matt Titchard taking 4-13, Ben Bravington 4-36 and Arthur Pennington 2-29. Grappers hit off the runs for the loss of two wickets, Will Sharp hitting 28 and Iain Wright hammering 73 not out.
For the third week running, Grappenhall 3rd’s game was thwarted by the weather. But the game reached the half-way stage before the rain came, with Grappers totalling 145 – a disappointing score after being 71-0 after 12 overs.  Paul Tyerman hit 38 and Ben Bravington hitting his first 50 for the club.
