WARRINGTON’S fostering service is enjoying the success of its recent recruitment campaign, launched during Foster Care Fortnight.
The borough council’s “Great with Children?” campaign targeted people with existing childcare skills, who may be looking for a new direction. It generated 60 enquiries in May alone.
Cllr Jean Carter, the council’s lead member for children and young people’s services said: “It’s brilliant to see many more people are interested in becoming a foster carer in Warrington
“The message about how rewarding it can be is reaching the right people with the right qualities to care for our most vulnerable children.
“Our current foster carers have been our biggest advocates during this campaign, getting out and about throughout the fortnight to tell others about their role.
“By explaining the training, support and benefits first hand, they are inspiring the next generation of foster carers.”
In Warrington, there are currently 117 fostering families looking after 179 children. There are also 75 Warrington children placed with foster carers from Independent Fostering Agencies, which can often be too far away.
Cllr Carter added: “We need to recruit more carers in or around Warrington to make sure that all children can stay close to their schools, family and friends; giving them as much stability as possible during difficult times.
“If you’re great with children and think you could help change a life through fostering, visit: warringtonfostering.co.uk  or call: 444 100.”
Foster carers in Warrington are provided with training, support and
allowances, including financial allowances from £295, per week, per child, and all the equipment needed.
