Roadside survey will guide transport planners

TRAFFIC surveys are to be carried out on key routes around Warrington over the next five weeks to help develop future transport schemes.
Borough council officers will be carrying out traffic and passenger counts along the town’s key routes and holding road side interviews with drivers to find out where they are driving from, their destination and the purpose of their journey.
The information will be used to develop a new transport model for the town and to give transport planning the ability to test out future schemes.
Cllr Hans Mundry, the council’s lead member for highways transportation and public realm, said: “These surveys are essential if the council is to continue its work to develop transport projects to help reduce traffic congestion and support the local economy. We accept that it may cause some delays but we would ask for drivers’ patience, to bear with us and help with the surveys as their participation is a very important part of the process.”
Each survey site will be in operation for just 12 hours and all the traffic management arrangements have been approved by Cheshire Police and the council’s roadworks team.
The roadside surveys are being carried out by Nationwide Data Collection, a specialist transport data collection company, on the council’s behalf.
