NHS staff become “dementia friends”

STAFF at NHS Warrington Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), became “Dementia Friends” to show their support for Dementia Awareness Week.
They took part in training at the CCG offices,  along with colleagues from the Homes and Communities Agency and Department for Communities and Local Government.
The national awareness week, organised by the Alzheimer’s Society, aimed to raise awareness of Dementia and the effect it can have on families. The focus was to encourage anyone who is worried about dementia to confront their concerns and get in touch with the Alzheimer’s Society.
Hundreds of thousands of families are touched by dementia every year and many people don’t know where to turn or who to go to for help and support.
Dr Gemma Askey, NHS Warrington CCG’s clinical lead for mental health, said: “We know dementia can be scary but you don’t have to face it alone. We want people living with dementia or caring for someone with dementia in Warrington to have improved health and a better quality of life.
Becoming a Dementia Friend helps you to learn a little bit more about what it’s like to live with dementia and spot the signs so you will be able to seek help early if you are concerned about a loved one.”
Anyone worried that they, or someone close to them, might have dementia, should call the Alzheimer’s Society National Dementia Helpline on 0300 222 1122 or email [email protected] for advice and support.
