Overseas star is hat-trick hero

GRAPPENHALL cruised to a comfortable eight wicket victory over Marple at Broad Lane – maintaining their winning start in the Vivio Cheshire County League.
The visitors were asked to bat first and made a slow start against accurate bowling. At 87-0 they were well placed to launch an onslaught – but the introduction of overseas star Ryan Ninan into the Grappers attack completely changed the game.
He ran riot in the middle order, taking 4-53 including a hat-track.  Marple struggled to 195-8.
Grappenhall came out all guns blazing with Tony McCoy hitting 35 off 20 balls to leave them on 45-1 in five overs.
Adam Roylance, 63 and Peter Barnes 80 not out steadied the ship and Grappers reached their target with nine overs to spare.
Grappenhall 2nd went down for the third successive weak when they lost by 32 runs at Nantwich.
The home side posted 211-3 with the Grappenhall bowlers struggling to make any real inroads. In reply, Grappers were bowled out for 179, opener Jamie Bye top scoring with 48.
Grappenhall 3rd chalked up their first league win of the season when they hosted Bramhall.
Batting first, they hammered 250-3, with Richard Holden hitting a ton on his first game back after a few years away from cricket. He was well supported by 15-year-old Josh Hayes, 62 not out and Matty Brown, with 50.
Bramhall never not going against tight bowling and fell short by 143, Richard Wiles claiming an excellent four wicket haul.
Warrington fell just short of victory in their drawn game at Cheadle Hulme. The home side batted first and reached 179-7, James Rudd taking 3-44 and Brad McIntosh 2-46. Warrington were 172-87 at the close, Mike Rudd hitting 46 and Adam Green 45.
In the Cheshire League, newly-promoted Lymm Oughtrington Park discovered life could be tough in the first division when they  were comprehensively beaten by Romily who batted first and reached 241-6, Blair Weller taking 3-76.  Lymm were bowled out for 83, despite Travis Scholes, 21, Paul Tong, 20 and Sam Pickup, 23,  all getting started.
In the 2nd XI game, Lymm were denied victory by stubborn defensive batting by Romily. Lymm batted first and reached 144-7, Asim Shah hitting 49. Romily were struggling at 97-8 at the close, Robert Hutton taking 3-11, Tony Spaven 2-27 and Shovan Chatterjee 2-20.
Appleton went down by four wickets against Alderley Park, batting first and reaching 145-8 only to see the opposition reach 147-6.
Stretton won by five wickets after dismissing Sandbach for 87. A Raza hit 77 of Stretton’s total of 88-5.
In the Cheshire Alliance, Glazebury suffered what must rank as one of the blackest days in the club’s history.
The 1st XI were bowled out for 30 at Hurst Lane after the strong Maritime side had hammered 232-9, Chris Ayres taking 4-69 and Jack Warhurst 3-56. The add to the club’s woes, the 2nd XI were tumbled out for 32 at Heaton Mersey Village who then replied with 36-2.
No batsman on either Glazebury side reached double figures.
Appleton 2nd managed a two wicket win over Kingsley, who batted first and hit 143-7. Chris Tomlinson took 3-51 and Jim Warham 3-30.  Appleton hit 145-8, Ed Sygrove hitting 30 not out and Warham 30.
