Electric Ben Currie on Aussie radar

WARRINGTON Wolves’ boss Tony Smith was full of praise for “electric” Ben Currie following the club’s 70-10 Challenge Cup victory at Oldham.

Smith, who has admitted that the 21-year-old centre/backrower is attracting interest from the NRL said: “Ben Currie was electric in the second half and at the end of the first.

“He is in great form at the moment. Wherever you ask him to play, he can do it. He is something a bit special and deserves the accolades he’s getting.”

But his displays haven’t gone unnoticed overseas, with a number of NRL clubs keeping an watchful eye on the star, who was a member of England’s Test series squad last year.

But Smith says Currie will be staying at Warrington for now, with his contract running until the end of the 2019 season.

“I think he’s been on their radar in Australia for a number of years,” added Smith.

“But he is happy with the way his career is developing at Warrington and I think he could certainly be a future club captain.”

Currie signed a new extended contract with the Wolves last June.
