Wolves praised for ending e-cigarette sponsorship

WARRINGTON Wolves’ decision to end its sponsorship deal with an e-cigarette company – which came into force from May 1 – has been praised by the borough council.
The council said today that it is fully supportive of Wolves’ decision – which means the Halliwell Jones stadium is now a completely smoke-free zone.
The club did come in for some criticism – including from its own fans – when it signed up for the deal with the e-cigarette company.
Although the stadium was already tobacco free, the deal meant that e-cigarettes could be used in some areas.
Wolves ended the sponsorship deal as quickly as possible.
Warrington’s director of public health, Dr Muna Abdel-Aziz, said: “We are fully supportive of the Wolves Healthy Stadia status which it achieved last year and are delighted that the Halliwell Jones Stadium is to become a completely smoke free environment.
The Wolves Foundation received the Healthy Stadia Award for its significant achievements in contributing to the improvement of public health across the local area.
The Healthy Stadia Award recognises the wide array of health programmes run by the Trust in local settings and on match days, delivering key health messages, providing health education, promoting healthy eating and encouraging physical activity.
