ARMED forces support services in Cheshire and Warrington are to get a £14,700 boost from extra funding and training.
The Cheshire Armed Forces Network has successfully applied for government funding to help raise awareness within the armed forces of all the support and services that are on offer to them.
Warrington Borough Council deputy chief executive, Katherine Fairclough, said: “It is important that people in the armed forces are aware of all the help and support that is available to them. This new funding will help enable that awareness within the forces community.”
The network also aims to train frontline service staff so that they can better support the unique circumstances current and former members of the armed forces find themselves in.
Alongside the training it will produce resources and information to identify the service charities and how best to contact them with the aim to connect all members of the armed forces community with the network in some way.
The Network successfully bid for £14,700 from the government’s Covenant Fund, a £10 million annual fund launched in Jun5 demonstrating the Government’s long-term commitment to supporting schemes under the Armed Forces Covenant.
The Covenant is a promise from the nation that those who serve or have served, and their families, will be treated fairly.
Defence Secretary Michael Fallon said: “The new fund strategically targets areas of need. Every year, this £10m will go towards worthy projects that fully promote the principles of the Covenant.”
