YOUNG musicians in Warrington are set to benefit from Priestley College’s new partnership with one of the world’s leading musical software companies.
Steinberg – a leading producer of music recording, arranging and editing software – has named Priestley one of only 16 training centres it currently has in the UK.
“Thanks to our certification all of our students will now get a free copy of the software so they can use it at home,” said Music Technology Tutor Michael Grainger.
“It is an incredible advantage for them and one that should help them achieve their grades and master this vital tool in music production.”
Priestley College is one of the region’s leading providers of Music Technology courses with around 50 students taking the A-Level.
The new partnership will also see Steinberg accept feedback from Priestley on the products it produces for the education sector.
Priestley will also be able to share best practice with the other Steinberg Centres, including The Sixth Form College Farnborough, Hampshire.
“Farnborough is the leading college in the country for Music Technology so we hope to be able to learn from them and share our ideas too,” said Michael.
Former Bridgewater High School pupil Emma Bozson has just become the first Priestley student to secure a place on the prestigious LIPA Sound Technology degree ahead of hundreds of others from around the world.
As well as volunteering behind-the-scenes at venues such as the Brindley, Emma produced a recording of a band performing Adele’s Skyfall using Steinberg equipment.
“It is a great piece of software and one I am really glad I was able to use,” said Emma, who is also studying English Language and Psychology. “It is very intuitive to use and the results are amazing.”
Steinberg was founded in 1984 by Karl Steinberg and Manfred Rürup, with headquarters in Hamburg. Since 2004, Steinberg has been a wholly owned subsidiary of the Yamaha Corporation.
