Join lung cancer campaign on Wirral Coastal Walk

WARRINGTON residents are being encouraged to take part in the 2016 Wirral Coastal Walk to help spread awareness about the devastating statistics linked with lung cancer.

Every day, 122 people are diagnosed with lung cancer in the UK alone.

Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation is urging people to take part in the walk on Sunday June 12 from Seacombe Ferry to Wirral Country Park.

Although the walk is a total of 15 miles, there are interim completion points at 4 and 10 miles, making it open to all abilities and ages.

Jack Miller, Director of Fundraising at Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation, said: “We are the only charity in the UK wholly dedicated to defeating lung cancer, despite the fact that it is the biggest cancer killer in the UK, claiming the lives of more people than breast and bowel cancer combined.

“More than 42,000 people are diagnosed with lung cancer each year and, shockingly, almost 70% of those people will not survive their first year, largely because of late diagnosis. As a charity, we are frustrated by these facts and work tirelessly to campaign, raise awareness and fundraise.

“It is really important for us to start making people aware of the statistics and the Wirral Walk is a great opportunity for Warrington residents to help us do just that. As well as raising awareness, the walk is also a great day out for people and pets of all ages and proved to be really popular with all participants last year.”

The registration fee is £5 per adult and £1 per child (10 and under). This is paid to the rotary club of North Wirral, who distribute the fees to local and national charities. 100% of the money raised through sponsorship will then go to Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.
