Charity launches children’s book appeal

WORLD Book Day spurred on a Warrington children’s charity to launch an appeal and campaign to collect and donate books and library equipment for a reading area at the Shannon Bradshaw Community Centre.
The Penketh-based centre was nominated by members of the public and its president, Patti Bradshaw, to benefit from the appeal launched by the Moore Foundation.
World Book Day is a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and reading. It’s the biggest celebration of its kind, designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading and is held in more than 100 countries
This year’s was the 19th time it has been held.
The Moore Foundation was established in 2005 by local businessman Nigel Garner because he felt that support and funds were often slow to reach children and families in need in the Warrington area.
Warrington library and lifestyle group LiveWire gave the appeal a boost by co-ordinating the collection and delivery of no longer required books from 11 libraries in the town.
Jo Unsworth, assistant strategic lead for libraries and learning at LiveWire, said: “It’s fantastic that we’ve been able to support the Shannon Bradshaw Community Centre and donate a selection of children’s books to celebrate World Book Day. The celebration aims to inspire young people across the globe to engage in the art of storytelling and encourage them to read more books.”
