THE average household in Warrington is being forced to pay an extra £226 a year on their fuel bills.
New figures show that more than half a million families in the North West, who are forced to pay for gas and electricity through prepayment metres, to pay an extra £116million than those using the cheapest direct debit tariffs.
Warrington North MP, Helen Jones, said: “The ‘PrePay Rip Off’ is hitting Warrington families hard, forcing the poorest to choose between heating and eating.
“Every year the poorest families are being forced to spend more on their fuel bills because of prepayment metres.
“It’s time for the government to act to end the ‘PrePay Rip Off’ which is adding to fuel bills in Warrington.”
