Junior doctors to take “positive action” on strike day

IF the junior doctors’ strike goes ahead, a group of young medics plan to take what they call “positive action” – by volunteering to teach basic life support skills at Lymm.
On December 1 – the first of the planned strikes – a group of junior doctors currently on maternity leave will team up with striking doctors to hold a taster sessions for those interested in basic life support.
Lymm resident Dr Lisa Wee had organised the session at Lymm Tennis Clkub from 10am to 1pm.
She said: “We are aiming to introduce people to what we mean by Basic Life Support and what skills they might learn if they attend a course. “There will be demonstrations of practical skills and many people will be available to answer any questions people may have.
“We are also welcoming those who already have qualifications or skills to talk or practice the skills they already have as it can be very difficult to have the opportunity to maintain your skills.
“This is an informal drop-in session. Everyone is welcome, including children- we will be bringing ours!
“The initial response from the public has been overwhelmingly positive and we anticipate a large number of people will attend.”
The doctors will be happy to talk about the dispute, which is over junior doctors’ contracts.
Dr Wee added: “we are very grateful to Heart Start and Lymm Tennis Club for providing resources for this event.”
