Make over heading for Bruche Park

A NEW play area for children is part of a range of improvements being undertaken at Bruche Park.

The work will see the replacement of the existing children’s play facilities with a new play area focused on the 0 to 8 age range to complement the existing equipment for older children.

The site improvements also include tree and woodland management throughout the Park.

The primary focus of the work will be to open up views with particular emphasis on improving safety and security for visitors.

Sections of woodland have been in decline for a number of years due to waterlogged ground and the density of plantings.

This means that the trees have now started to fail resulting in a number of mature trees having to be removed due to safety concerns.

As part of the thinning project, weak and over mature trees and shrubs will be removed so that good specimens can grow on to maturity.

Care will be taken to avoid damage to the habitats of the many forms of wildlife living in the park.

The new improvement works come on the back of a public consultation which gave residents the opportunity to share their opinions on the proposal.

Cllr Kate Hannon, executive board member for leisure, community and culture, said: “This a huge step forward in improving Bruche Park for residents to enjoy. We had a brilliant response to the public consultation regarding the new equipment as well as the tree thinning process.

“The new improvements will not only attract more visitors to the park, but also the tree thinning will make the park feel a lot safer by increasing the light coming in and opening up the park.

“Thanks to the public’s responses, this council project will come as yet another fantastic asset to our town.”
