LYMM Community Energy has celebrated “going live” with its first two renewable energy schemes at local schools.
The schemes are up-and-running at Ravenbank and Oughtrington primary schools – providing green energy for the schools and saving them money as well.
Zoe Cohen, chairman of Lymm Community Energy, said: “We are delighted to have been able to celebrate the ‘go live’ of our first two schemes – at Ravenbank and Oughtrington Community Primary Schools.”
Lymm Community Energy Limited (LCE) is a community benefit society established to enable local people and organisations to invest in renewable energy and energy efficiency installations, giving them a financial return and benefitting the local community.
LCE raised £109,000 through a community share offer to fund the installation of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems at the two schools, as well as energy efficient lighting at one of the schools.
Pupils and teachers at both schools have live monitoring information available to them online which tells them all about the electricity their panels are generating.
Teachers and pupils are excited about the opportunities this can provide them in many areas of the curriculum.
LCE – which was set up by Low Carbon Lymm in collaboration with Warrington Borough Council has publicly thanks the borough and parish councils, the schools and 37 investors who made the work possible.
Anyone who would like to help further schemes for other Lymm Schools and community buildings by becoming an investor and making a competitive financial return (a projected pre-tax return averaging 3-4 per cent, plus the a potential one off income tax relief of up to between 30-50 per cent should contact [email protected] to express their interest.
