Junior Safety Officers set shining example

THIS year’s Junior Safety Officers are now busy promoting important messages and competing for the star prize.

The council, Cheshire Constabulary and Cheshire Fire and Rescue have just launched their third junior safety officer scheme at Warrington Town Hall.

Representatives from the partners attended plus all the newly recruited Junior Safety Officers from each of the 41 primary schools that have joined the scheme.

The Junior Safety Officers were presented with certificates, a Junior Safety Officer pack, and their badges of honour.

As part of the scheme, the officers are now tasked with promoting positive messages about personal safety, road safety fire safety and community safety during the school year.

They are encouraged to display information on notice boards, come up with ideas to promote the messages and keep a record of all their work.

At the end of the year, officers are then chosen to receive an award for their hard work and commitment with last year’s joint winners being Beamont Primary school and St Bridget’s Catholic Primary school.

Councillor Hans Mundry, executive board member for highways, transportation and climate change, said: “The scheme is designed to increase safety awareness among school children and to help them take responsibility for keeping themselves and each other safe.

“The messages that the scheme supports enforces existing messages currently delivered by Road Safety Officers, Police Community Support Officers, and Fire and Rescue Advocates.

“I am really pleased that more young people have come forward again to be Junior Safety Officers and be a role model for their peers.”
