TWO teams from Lymm-based Xentum collectively cycled more than 1,100 miles raise funds for the Christie Charity.

The Manchester 100 sees cyclists cover either 100 miles or 100 kilometres through Nantwich, Middlewich and the Delamere Forest.

Xentum MD Dominic Baldwin said: “We commit to supporting a local charity every year and this year we decided to support The Christie – specifically their Endocrinology Research Fund and the work they’re doing on pancreatic cancer.

“We had two teams taking part. Five cycled 100 miles with another 10 of us completing 100 kilometres – a grand total of 1,121 miles.”

Xentum have set themselves a target of raising £10,000, and Sunday’s event saw them halfway to their target.

Team member Sam Colby-Butcher, who completed the full 100 miles, added, “It was a fantastic day. The weather was perfect and knowing you were doing it for such a good cause made any suffering worthwhile.”

Despite setting off at separate times and cycling different routes, the two Xentum teams had arranged to meet up so that they could cross the finishing line together.

“It was a truly memorable moment,” said Dominic, “As we crossed the line – all in our official Christie tops – it was easy to imagine what it must feel like to cycle triumphantly up the Champs Elysees in the Tour de France.”

The team members are already planning to be back in next year’s event, “With everyone firmly committed to 100 miles next time,” added Sam.
