WARRINGTON council has issued a traffic warning following an incident on Runcorn Bridge which could cause heavy congestion in the town.
Runcorn Bridge was closed to all traffic but is now re-opened to traffic, although there could still be heavy traffic implications through Warrington, especially along the A57 Sankey Way and the A56/A5060 Chester Rd.

So that’s why Chester Road going into town was one long queue at a standstill 3.30pm. I turned round and came home. No better an hour later either when Mr Dizzy was coming home and it was all the way up Walton Drag. Ridiculous around Warrington when they close the Runcorn bridge but I guess people need to get to where they are going somehow. Are we still getting our two new bridges and if so can they blummin’ hurry up with them !!!
Going to be a couple of years before you get your first new bridge – and if you think it is bad in Warrington try driving to Runcorn and Liverpool airport down the Expressway!!!
No thanks and I’ll give that a big miss as I’ve heard how bad that can get !
…and despite the bridge reopening at 4pm Chester Road/Walton Drag & Walton Road towards Stockton Heath were still gridlocked at 6.45pm. Why !? Yet again we gave up, turned round and came home. Madness !
Knutsford Road was completely clear at 6.45pm
How odd as my neighbour said they went down the sneaky side roads around the same time to get to the A49 (London road) cos the other ways were blocked and once they got onto London Road that was fine too but they didn’t bother heading for town centre just in case so went the longer way round. Maybe there was something else that was making all the traffic divert from the Chester Road to town route through the village at that time then and nothing to do with what happened earlier….. or maybe it was just all made worse by just the stupid lights in Stockton Heath at the junction and all the blummin’ road works and closures everywhere.
