Canal bank blaze

A FIRE involving a large area of canal bank at Warrington was tackled by firefighters using hose reel jets.
The blaze involved more than 100 square metres of vegetable on the bank of the Manchester Ship Canal near Minerva Close.
It was one of a number of fires in the Warrington area over the weekend.
One fire engine from Warrington Fire Station went to woodland near the Westbrook Centre and crews used a back pack extinguisher to deal with a small fire.
Three fire engines from Warrington, Birchwood and Stockton Heath were called to Mersey Street where a fire involving a large trailer was extinguished using two hose reel jets.
Fire engines from Warrington and Newton-le-Willows were called Alder Root Lane, Winwick when fire broke out involving a metal container full of hay.
