Bikers set to complete 600-mile ride

FOUR Warrington cyclists look set to complete a gruelling 600 mile ride across Portugal and Spain today – raising money for cancer research.
The Woolston Riders should arrive in Majacor – six days after setting out from Lisbon.
Their aim was to complete 100 miles-a-day – and so far, despite a few setbacks, they have managed to do so.
The four are Terry Reid, aged 48, Wayne Buckles, aged 49, Mick Skerrett, aged 52, and Martin Finnegan, aged 47.
They have been backed up by support driver Stuart Hardman, aged 47 – and by their mascot, a stuffed monkey named Dave!
The friends are raising funds for Cancer Research UK in memory of Martin’s cousin Melissa Renouf  who died in Australia in October 2013, aged 38, from the disease.
They have funded the trip themselves, so all money donated goes straight to the charity.
The epic journey has attracted quite a lot of attention in Spain, being featured in two newspapers.
Wayne took a tumble on the first day when his wheels got stuck in some tramlines – but he suffered only minor bruises.
Intense heat has been the biggest problem.
