Swan which lost mate and seven eggs finds new love

A swan which lost its mate and seven eggs following a raid on its nest at Ackers Pit, Stockton Heath, Warrington, has found new love.
The female swan nicknamed “Girlie” by locals, has been rehomed at Fort Belvedere in Windsor Great Park in Surrey.
She had been taken away to a Swan sanctuary as she was living in the housing estate next to Ackers Pit following the raid on her nest last May.
Local amateur photographer Darren Moston and his wife Carolyn, had been watching the family of swans on Ackers pit for six years and were left devastated by the raid.
Darren said: “I have kept in touch with the lady who took her and she has now found another mate and they have been rehomed at Fort Belvedere in Windsor Great Park in Surrey.
“They don’t normally home them like this and leave them to pair off but due to the horrible and painful event Girlie had been through, they decided to take her somewhere safe.
“We still miss her and her big man and the cygnets but I am glad she is now safe.”
