Tom encourages others to embrace apprenticeships

A 20-year-old from Warrington is encouraging other young people in the area to put themselves forward to become a social media apprentice with The Juice Academy.

Tom Everson, who beat off stiff competition in July to land a unique role at football betting company, Footy Accumulators, is hoping to inspire other young people to consider the apprenticeship route.

The Juice Academy is currently recruiting its eighth cohort of apprentices, with a top apprenticeship role available in Warrington at Tactus, a specialist in protection for mobile technology.
Other opportunities up for grabs include Jump Nation, the world’s largest indoor trampoline park, Intu Trafford Centre, the fashion hub of the North, Venturi, a leading IT recruitment company, GymCube, virtual gym class specialists, and award winning digital agency Project Simply.
The Juice Academy, the UK’s first employer-led social media apprenticeship, has created nearly 80 jobs for young people since its launch in July 2013.
The brainchild of integrated communications consultancy Tangerine, the apprenticeship was created to increase youth employment and fill an industry-wide skills gap by training young professionals in the practical application of social media.
Tom said: “Social media is already a huge part of my daily life, so I feel privileged to be using this as a platform for my career. I’m learning something new every day while at Footy Accumulators and feel like I’m making a positive difference to the company.
“University is not the only option for people my age and I’m glad my career is starting now, rather than in a few years. If I could give any advice to others in a similar position, it would be to give it a go – you never know where the chance might lead.”
Scott Brenchley, CEO of Tactus, said: “This is an excellent opportunity for someone who lives and breathes social media to utilise and develop their skills, while bringing fresh and imaginative ideas to our company.
“The type of candidate we’re looking for is a creative, hardworking and enthusiastic social media superstar, to join our innovative company.”
As part of his day-to-day role, Tom is tasked with creating and scheduling online content, while taking time out to train at The Juice Academy in Manchester.
