MORE than 50 job seekers attended Golden Gates Housing Trust’s first ever “Job Boot Camp” at Orford Jubilee Hub.
The full day Boot Camp was organised to give job seekers an opportunity to get together and discuss the barriers they are facing while searching for employment.
Organised by GGHT’s Employment Initiatives Team the event had workshops on areas such as developing and maintaining confidence and interview skills.
The attendees also worked together to explore issues around how to sell yourself during the application and interview process, including the importance of personal appearance in a drive to boost employability skills and increase prospects of securing work.
Liz Cotterill from Asda also delivered a workshop which gave insight into what working at Asda is really like. The session covered supermarket retail culture, team building exercises and introduced attendees to the wide variety of roles available in store as well as detailing what the company is looking for in potential candidates.
Attendee and GGHT resident Isabel Dean, said: “The day has truly reduced my fears about getting a job and has boosted my confidence massively. It has given me a lot to think about in terms of how I’m going to go about my job search and how I advertise myself to prospective employers.”
