A MAJOR international manufacturing company is to set up on Warrington’s Omega development site – bringing hundreds of new jobs.
The as yet unnamed firm – said to be a world-leading European manufacturer – occupy a 240,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art facility within Zone 7 on Omega South, expanding its UK presence.
Omega Warrington Ltd (OWL) says the deal is a major boost for British industry and the local economy.
Andrew Sutherland, joint managing director for Miller Developments, a partner in OWL, said: “Having secured the North West’s biggest logistics deal in 2014, we are delighted to continue the momentum at the start of this year with a deal that heralds extremely positive news for local employment and the country’s manufacturing sector.
“Added to the recent deal with The Hut Group, this latest signing reflects the strength of Omega’s offer to the manufacturing and logistics industries, with access to a huge labour pool and manufacturing expertise within a 30-minute drive time from the site.
“The benchmark has been set for 2015, as we bring forward these developments and hopefully see more pipeline deals come into fruition.”
A £23m forward funding agreement has been secured following approval of a reserved matters planning application in November.
The occupier will service its customer network from its new Warrington base, which will also include 20,000 sq. ft. of offices on a 20-acres site.
The deal represents a significant investment in the UK, which not only bucks national trends but will put Warrington firmly on the map as a major contributor for manufacturing in the North West.
Cllr Terry O’Neill, leader of Warrington Borough Council, said: “I am delighted that yet another occupier has chosen to set up at Omega and Warrington. I am especially pleased that this will create
hundreds of new manufacturing jobs and also that this represents business investment from an overseas company.
“Warrington was once again ranked as a top ‘city’ for growth in the recent Centre for Cities report and this announcement is a further endorsement of those findings.”
Work on the new premises is already underway, with completion due this summer.
