Town Hall blunder over ban on U-turns

A TOWN Hall blunder resulted in Warrington Borough Council publishing an order prohibiting traffic from making a U-turn on the west bound carriageway of a road that hasn’t got a west bound carriageway.
As a result, the council has had to publish the Cromwell Avenue Revocation of bus lane and prohibition of U-turns Order a second time – and extend the period for objections or support by a week.
The original notice was in relation to an order prohibiting motor vehicles travelling on the west bound carriageway of Cromwell Avenue from making a U-turn at the junction of the A57, Sankey Way to travel in the opposite direction.
In fact, Cromwell Avenue runs north-south at this point – so hasn’t got a west bound carriageway.
The A57 Sankey Way, on the other hand, runs west-east, so does have a west bound carriageway.
A new notice issued by the council says it was the intention to prohibit traffic on the sound bound carriageway of Cromwell Avenue from making a U-turn at the junction of Sankey Way.
The mistake means the period for representations supporting or objecting is extended to January 16 – a week later than originally intended.
A council spokesperson said: “There was a genuine error in last week’s traffic notice relating to Cromwell Avenue which was rectified as soon as possible. The period for any representations supporting or objecting to the proposals has been extended for a further week.”

  1. How many times has this Council wrongly served formal notices? It seems to make a habit of doing so. The wrongful serving of enforcement notice for Arpley tip should have been a wake call at the Town Hall.
