Villagers asked to look out for the elderly

VILLAGERS have been asked to show community spirit during the winter months – by looking out for elderly or vulnerable neighbours.
Grappenhall and Thelwall Parish Council is asking residents to ensure older and vulnerable people don’t feel isolated.
Out of a population of nearly 10,000 in Grappenhall and Thelwall, nearly 2,000 are aged over 65, with many living in social isolation.
Clerk to the council Janet Richards said: “This is a plea to all residents to watch out for neighbours, friends and those who may be more vulnerable during the cold weather. It is also a plea to the older and vulnerable residents, to not be afraid to ask for help.
“Now is the time for everyone to embrace their community spirit – even if it’s just checking whether an elderly neighbour needs a pint of milk from the shops when you are going anyway. It may only take an extra minute, but it can make a real difference to someone’s life.”
Advice can be obtained from the council on 01925 264918 or from Age UK on 01925 244645.
