MORE than 120 people attended a “Meet the Buyer” event for the construction industry organised by regeneration specialists Warrington & Co.
Aim of the event was enable contractors, sub-contractors and suppliers in the area to find out more about future opportunities for the construction sector in Warrington.
Major buyers present included Bowmer and Kirkland, D Morgan, Sir Robert McAlpine and Seddon Construction.
There was a welcome address from leader of Warrington Borough Council, Cllr Terry O’Neill (pictured) and presentations from Steve Park, managing director of Warrington & Co, Neil Johnston, development director, Miller Developments and Tim Smith, principal manager, community learning and skills at Warrington Borough Council.
There were plenty of opportunities for networking between contractors, trades and suppliers.
Organisations including CITB, Total People – training provider for Apprenticeships – Warrington Collegiate Construction School as well as Warrington Borough Council procurement and building control teams were also present to offer practical advice and information on subjects such as the tender process and supply chain requirements.
The borough council, working in partnership with Warrington & Co and Omega Warrington Ltd, are committed to maximising opportunities for the local business community to engage with the major developments happening now and in the near future.
Cllr O’Neill said: “This was a fantastic opportunity for local business to become aware of the council-led projects that we have underway or planned. So far this year we have announced projects to the value of £455 million which will reshape and grow our town for the future.
“We are committed to ensure that local contractors are best positioned to compete for and win work on these regeneration projects and the event provided a great opportunity for them to do so.”
Warrington & Co’s Steve Park added: “This was a great event for business and a great networking opportunity.
“The borough is brimming with opportunity for business in every sector. At Warrington & Co it is a key element of our role to ensure that local businesses are best equipped to take advantage of the opportunities available and this event was specifically set up for the construction sector to help them to win future contracts.
“The attendance and overwhelming success of the event was such that we intend to set up similar events for other sectors and would encourage interested businesses to e-mail us their details in order to be advised as and when these are arranged.”
