Teenager's praise for careers service

A WARRINGTON teenager has praised the borough council’s Careers for Young People service for helping him decide the next step – and he’s won an iPad for getting their advice.
Waqar Quayyum, 19 from Great Sankey, went along to a careers event organised by the council’s Careers for Young People Service and he won an iPad mini after entering a competition by the National Apprenticeship Service.
Waqar was one of 180 individuals who attend one of a series of events over the summer at the Careers for Young People centre aimed at promoting apprenticeships.
Although currently on an electrical installation course at Warrington, Wagar has already decided that the next step on his career path will be an apprenticeship.
Waqar said: “The staff at the centre were great at helping me make my mind up. After talking to them I now see an apprenticeship as a great way of putting what I have learned so far in to practice plus, it will help me further develop my skills and knowledge so I can achieve my goal of becoming a fully qualified electrician.”
Cllr Colin Froggatt, the borough council’s member for children and young people’s services, said: “The careers for young people service is going from strength to strength, with more young people than ever getting in touch for advice about their future. The staff can advise young people on their next steps, give help with applying for jobs or with writing
cvs and can give guidance about training and education courses in the area. If you know a young person who is struggling with what to do next, point them in the direction of the careers for young people centre.”
