WARRINGTON Borough Council’s public health team is raising awareness of local help available to mark World Suicide Prevention Day.
The global awareness day was sponsored this year by the International Association for Suicide Prevention and the World Health
Organisation.
On the website for the council’s mental health campaign ‘Happy? Ok? Sad?’ people can find out about lots of local support services which are available. Visit www.happyoksad.org.uk for more information.
The theme of the day was: “Stigma: a major barrier to suicide prevention”.
A council spokesperson said:”Stigma can make people reluctant to ask for help, and the team want to encourage people to seek help and support if they need it.
“We are encouraging people who feel desperate and are having thoughts of suicide to talk to their GP, or ring the Warrington and Halton Assessment Team on 01925 666647, 24 hours a day. The Assessment Team is for adults with moderate to severe symptoms of mental health problems.
Peole can also call the Samaritans on 08457 90 90 90 or PAPYRUS HOPELineUK for young people, on 0800 068 41 41.
Both charities support people who are in distress or feeling suicidal.
