New community centre planned

0

WARRINGTON Borough council is to build a new community centre in St Peter’s Park in the Fairfield area of the town.
The single storey building will be close to the junction of Battersby Lane and Scott Street – opposite the Grade 2 Listed Albion public house.
A number of trees will be lost – but a double line of Swedish Whitebeam trees fronting Scott Street, which are of high amenity value will not be affected.
Replacement trees will be planted for poor quality Hawthorn, Cherry and Ash trees which will be lost.
The park already has a range of facilities, including areas for formal and informal children’s play, a basketball court, benches, etc.
Planning chiefs have approved the development after hearing the new centre will provide a community activity facility for the area, to be managed by local residents, and encourage increased use of the park.
The new building will enhance the setting of the listed pub and will blend in with recently built houses in the area.
