TRADE union members at local bus company Network Warrington have started a work to rule and over time ban over a pay freeze..
Network Warrington Trade Union members commenced continuous industrial action from one minutes passed midnight in response to the decision made by the company earlier in the year to introduce a 12 month pay freeze due to falling passenger numbers and reduced revenue. This action will affect approximately 240 of the 275 employees at the company.
During this time drivers will not operate any overtime, meaning that unfortunately there will be the potential of disruption to bus services.
Services on Saturday August 31 and Sunday September 1 will be most affected.
However, following the service changes that commence on Monday (September 2), it is expected that the disruption to passengers will be minimal.
Parents can be assured that at this time school services will remain unaffected.
In March the company made the difficult decision to introduce a pay freeze for all employees in this financial year.
It is the first time in 16 years that the company has been unable to offer a pay increase. In response to this decision staff members were balloted by the Unite Union and unfortunately this has resulted in the impending industrial action.
Ann Marie Slavin, Network Warrington Interim Managing Director said: “We will do everything possible to continue to run our services as normal during this time and we apologise in advance to any customers who may be inconvenienced.”
Network Warrington’s website will be updated regularly to notify customers of any service disruptions and the company advises that customers visit the website before travelling, particularly this weekend.

Pay rises for the last 16 years and now when they dont get one they strike? They should live in the real world like the rest of us
Exactly so! Over the past several years many workers have had no rise at all but were just pleased to have a job. What makes the bus drivers different?
If the work to rule stops drivers running early then I am all for it.
Hasn’t the local council recently put millions in to this bus company to stop it going bust, given the attitude of its workforce, maybe they should have let it go bust…..there are no pay rises on the dole.
240 employees affected by a pay freeze, what about the other 35?? Are they getting a pay increase like the proposal for some senior managers within the council, while the workers make do as usual!!!!! Is there a bigger picture here I ask??
It’s the industrial action which will affect 240 out of 275, not the pay freeze. The other 35 are probably office staff and the like who do not work overtime or aren’t represented by the same union.
