WARRINGTON Borough Council has congratulated the town’s students after the publication of the provisional results of this year’s A-level exams which are above the national average.
Cllr Colin Froggatt, executive board member for children and young people’s services, said: “The overall percentage of A-level pass grades in Warrington is as high as last year, with 99.3% of students achieving a pass grade.
“Warrington’s pass rate is higher than the national pass rate of 98.1%.
“The percentage of Warrington students who achieved 3 or more A*-E passes has increased from 69.3% to 75%, and an impressive 72% achieved A*-C grades.
“Also, the number of Warrington students taking subjects such as science and maths has increased by 24%.”
Cllr Froggatt added: “I would like to congratulate the young people of Warrington on their achievement, which is the result of years of hard work with support from friends, families and the excellent staff we have in Warrington’s schools and colleges.
“I’m delighted that in Warrington our schools, academies, colleges and the council continue to work together to share best practice and ensure our young people get the best education we can provide.
“The whole town should be proud of its young people and join them in celebrating their success today. We wish them the best of luck for the future.”

Can we assume that the 0.7% who failed to achieve the pass rate spelled their name wrong?
I assume you meant names, plural. It is extremely unlikely they all had the same name.
Well done to the young people and ignore any bitter old g*** making negative comments.
can assume what we like- could be many reasons why students were in the 0.7%
Sorry Nick, I should have said the 0.7% spelled his or her name wrong.
