A WARRINGTON man was robbed of his mobile phone as he walked home in the early hours of the morning.
He was grabbed from behind and punched as he walked along Farrell Street, from Kingsway South Bridge, in the direction of the town centre.
The incident was between 11.50pm on Monday and 12.05am on Tuesday.
Police are appealing for witnesses.
Shortly before the attack the victim, a 22-year-old man, was approached by a man who asked him for a light.
Afterwards, the unknown man walked on ahead along Farrell Street while the victim crossed to the other side of the road.
At some point, the other man also crossed the road, grabbed him from behind and pulled him backwards by the hood on his coat.
He grabbed his mobile phone and ran off along Farrell Street, turning left into Church Street.
The victim, who sustained a cut to his left eye and bruising and swelling to his eye and cheekbone, ran home and contacted police.
Officers are currently carrying out a number of enquiries including house-to-house enquiries, CCTV checks and forensic checks in a bid to trace the offender.
The offender was in his late teens with a slim face. He was clean shaven, had short dark blonde hair and was wearing a dark coloured jacket and dark coloured jeans.
Anyone with any information, which could assist officers with their enquiries, is urged to call Cheshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers, on the confidential hotline 0800 555 111.
