A SENIOR councillor at Warrington has expressed his delight at the borough council’s planning victory over the controversial Peel Hall housing development proposals.
Cllr David Keane, the borough council’s executive member for environment said: “We’re delighted with this decision because the council has always maintained this planning application was significantly flawed.”
As reported by Warrington-Worldwide yesterday, developers Satnam Mkillennium Ltd failed in an appeal against the borough council’s refusal to permit the building of 150 houses on land off Mill Lane, Grasmere Avenue and Windermere Avenue.
Cllr Keane said: “We’re delighted with this decision because the council has always maintained that this planning application was significantly flawed.
“For example, there were poor transport links, the proposed homes would have been too far away from the local primary school, and there was no provision for local facilities like shops. Overall the planning inspector quite rightly agreed with our argument that this development would not constitute sustainable development.
“Further, the proposed development didn’t comply with our policy, which is to prioritise growth in inner Warrington.
“The council successfully defended this position at the inquiry and the inspector has agreed with our view.”
Cllr Keane added: “I would like to thank the community for coming out in force to fight off these plans and I would also like to thank the planning officers and legal officers involved for all their hard work and their professional excellence in defending this appeal.”
