Grappers keep up the pressure

GRAPPENHALL kept up the pressure on the top two teams in the Vivio Cheshire County League with a seven wicket win at Alderley Edge which strengthened their position at three.
Skipper Richard Green decided to insert the home side on a wicket that offered just a bit to the bowlers and opening bowlers Josh McClelland and Luke Williams soon reduced Alderley to 29-2.
But it was the introduction of Gaz Burns to the attack that really had the home side reeling as he took 4-9 in nine overs, including three wickets in his first over.
At 37 for 5, Alderley’s hopes of a match-winning score were in tatters and although the tail wagged briefly they were all out for 112 in the 36 overs.
Wicket-keeper Liam Parkinson took six catches.
In reply Grappenhall raced to 38 before James McCoy was out for a
hard hitting 22 from just 13 deliveries.
Luke McCoy hit 25 and Josh McClelland 22 not out as as Grappers eased over the line in the 23rd over – with 52 overs to spare!
Grappenhall 3rd – top of their table as they went into the weekend – lost to second placed Hyde, enabling them to leapfrog to the top.
Batting first, Grappers were held to 139-9 with Neil Muttock hitting a solid 42 and youngster Ben Bodha hitting his first senior 50 to enable the side to get into three figures.
Hyde were 20-2 but went on to win by seven wickets.
Warrington enjoyed a 10 wicket win over Congleton at Walton Lea.
The visitors were bowled out for a modest 133, with Kyle Adams taking 6-62 and Sam Baxter 2-48.
Openers Chris Kirby, 38 not out and Richard Heaney, 72 not out took Warrington to their target.
Warrington 3rd suffered a mauling at the hands of Neston who declared on 244-4 and then bowled Warrington out for a humiliating 87.
But Warrington 5th got the better of a draw with Ashley, declaring on 198-7, Mansoor Naseem 60 not out and Sam Houghton 82 not out.
Ashley were 130-7 At the close, James Lewis taking 3-28 and Mike Fagan-Hall 2-16.
In the Cheshire League, Lymm Oughtrington Park suffered a heavy defeat at Langley, where the home side declared on 286-7.
Steve Knowles and Mike Carr both hit 30 as Lymm replied but the side were back in the pavilion for 123.
Lymm Oughtrington Park 2nd went down to Runcorn at Oughtrington Lane after being bowled out f0or 175. The visitors replied with 177-8.
In the Cheshire Alliance, Glazebury’s long run of dismal form came to an end with an emphatic win over Stalybridge St Pauls at Hurst Lane.
It didn’t look promising at first as Glazebury were dismissed for 115 in 35 overs, Chris Lord top scoring with 22.
But the home side were tumbled out for 43, Jack Warhurst taking 5-18 and Hakeem Dahou 3-12.
Glazebury 2nd also won at Stalybridge where the home side were dismissed for 155, Paul Charlton 6-43.
Veterans Simon Green, 84 not out and Dave Warhurst, 29, top scored as Glazebury cantered to 158-5. Chris Ayre hit 24 not out.
Appleton did well to win at Old Parkonians after the home side had declared on 211-9, Edward Pugh 5-58.
David Hurst hit 48, Ali Sharif 54 and Richard Clarke 35 not out as Appleton replied with 214-6.
Stretton lost at Haslington after being bowled out for 73, J Pervez 20. The home side knocked off the runs for the loss of three wickets.
Rylands bowlers toiled in the sun at Wilmslow as the home side amassed 268-6 declared.
Skipper Adams Peters bowled 18 overs for his 2-117.
Then the below strength Rylands were dismissed for a paltry 68, Sam Mulholland 18.
Rylands 2nd turned the tables, however, dismissing the Wilmslow second string for 82, G Sujith 5-36 and then reaching their target for the loss of five wickets, Geoff Shaw top scoring with 25.
