Grappers' first defeat in a month

GRAPPENHALL lost for the first time in a month when they clashed with Vivio Cheshire County League title contenders Chester Boughton Hall at Broad Lane.
The visitors invited Grappenhall to bat first and the home side made a solid start reaching 48 without loss.
Then Jimmy McCoy skied one and was out for 29. Fellow opener Adam Roylance was caught at mid-wicket for 36 and Grappers then lost three quick wickets to find themselves tottering on 97-5.
A partnership of 42 between Mike Sambell and Liam Parkinson steadied the ship. Sambell ended up with 56 as the side finished on a below-par 190.
Grappenhall set an attacking field and went for early wickets, and were rewarded at 20. A second wicket came at 89 and a third at 129.
But after that, Chester coasted to their target without any alarms.
Grappenhall picked up seven useful points, but with a few more runs from key players could have picked up a win.
Grappenhall 2nd travelled to Chester and were well beaten after being bowled out for 110, opener Jamie Bye carrying his bat for 44 dand Matt Titchard hitting 22. The home side coasted to victory for the loss of one wicket.
Grappenhall 3rd maintained their winning form, however, defeating Bramhall by seven wickets.
Sean Phillips took 5-17 and Neil Muttock 2-23 as the visitors were dismissed for 143. Ian Barnes hit 58 not out and Mark Tyerman 37 as Grappers replied with 147-3.
Warrington managing to hang on for a draw when they entertained Stockport at Walton Lea.
The visitors batted first and reached 193-8, Kyle Adams 3-72, Matt Adams 2-28 and Paul Farrar 2-42.
Warrington got off to a poor start and were at one time struggling at 42-6. But Kyle Adams hit 60 and Ashley Scholes 21 as the tail wagged and the side finished on 156-8.
Warrington 2nd won by six wickets at Stockport where the home side were dismissed for 167, Howard Morris 3-32, Ben McIntosh 3-25.
Jordan Mitchell hammered 84 and Andy Kirby 36 as Warrington replied with 169-4.
In the Cheshire Alliance, Glazebury’s dismal form continued as they went down by eight wickets in the “derby” game against Appleton.
Glazebury batted first at Hurst Lane and were struggling at 50-6 until Tom Wilkinson hammered a superb 70. Good support came from Dean Lord 30 but Glazebury were back in the pavilion for 152.
Good all-round batting saw Appleton home, Antony Hurst hitting 36, Ali Sharif 34 not out, Dom Smith 35 and Ehtisham Rashid 35 not out.
Glazebury 2nd also went down, at Port Sunlight, where they home side hit 229-2.
Ian Black hit 62 as Glazebury were bowled out for 193. Wayne Hargreaves hit 26, David Nicholson 28 and Mark Rowan 27 not out.
Rylands lost by five wickets against Haslington after being bowled out for 121, Peter Osment 35. Richard Buck was Rylands’ best bowler with 4-50.
Rylands 2nd were humiliated at Stalybridge St Pauls when they were tumbled out for 37 after the home side had amassed 243-6 declared.
Stretton coasted to a seven wicket victory after dismissed Saughall for 127 and Stretton 2nd lost by seven wickets to Mellor after being dismissed or 127, Jason Taylor 57.
Appleton 3rd coasted to an eight wicket win over Wilmslow after David Smythe’s 5-23 helped dismiss them for 93. Marcus Pepper hit an unbeaten 31 as Appleton replied with 94-2.
Appleton 4th were beaten by 10 wickets by Bromborough after being dismissed for 120.
In the Cheshire League, Lymm Oughtrington Park 2nd lost by 127 runs against Northwich when they were bowled out for 86.
