A STRATEGY for sports pitches in Warrington has been formally adopted by Town Hall chiefs fokllowing
consultation with local clubs, leagues and the national governing bodies of the major sports.
Active Warrington – “pitching for succss” – launched more than a year ago – has identified
the need to to provide high quality sports pitches to help close the gap between the more
and less affluent areas of the borough.
A report to the borough council’s executive board by Cllr Kate Hannon (pictured), executive member for leisure, community and culture, says the town has a legacy of employer’s social club facilities which, alongside
borough and parish council facilities, are in need of upgrading to modern day standards.
External funding to improve pitch and changing faciliies in Warrington has, historically been difficult to access.
Adopting the new strategy will provide the evidence base for public, voluntary and private sector organisations in Warrington to make a stronger case for grant funding support.
Consultation has highlighted the need for a good geographical spread of multi-sport outdoor
facilities, acceptance by users of a “sports hub” concept, maximise use of synthetic surfaces and to reflect
current trends in individual sports.
Talks with head teachers to increase community access to school sports pitches have proved “very positive.”
The Active Warrington strategy aims to improve the overall quality of playing fields and their ancillary facilities throughout Warrington – an integral parts of the overall improvement plan for sports services.

  1. The facilities we pay WBC to use are terrible most parents wont let there kids use the changing rooms or showers, this is a safeguarding issue and its about time they addressed these issues as i am sure we are not the only club in this situation.
