Grappers cruelly denied victory

GRAPPENHALL were cruelly denied victory in their second Vivio Cheshire County League game – but did more than enough to suggest they can live in the premier division.
Skipper Richard Green hit a fine 107 as Grappers reached 252-5 against Alderley Edge at Broad Lane. Aussie import Josh McClelland hit an unbeaten 51 and opener Adam Roylance hit 41.
Dan Hawke’s pace proved too much for the visitors who seldom looked like reaching their target. But the last pair proved resistant and held on to the end to deny Grappers victory on 179-9. Hawke finished with 7-50.
In division two, Warrington coasted to a nine wicket victory at Congleton where the home side were tumbled out for 76, Kyle Adams taking 6-30. Richard Heaney hit 40 not out as Warrington replied with 77-1.
Warrington 2nd got the better of a drawn game with Congleton at Walton Lea.
Batting first they reached 217-3, James Rudd 77, Brendan Morris 48 and Craig Vansteenwinckel 46 not out. The visitors didn’t seem interested in chasing victory and finished on 109-7, Ryan Swart taking 2-26 and Nick Houghton 2-20.
In the Cheshire League, Lymm Oughtrington Park chalked up a seven wicket win over Langley at Oughtrington Lane.
The visitors batted first and totalled 139, Mark Bradshaw taking 4-37. Lymm wasted little time in reaching 142-3, Rob Young 91 not out.
In the Cheshire Alliance, Glazebury’s good form continued at Stalybridge St Pauls, although they were denied victory by a stubborn last wicket partnership.
Glazebury batted first and reached 228, father and son Chris and Dean Lord both finding form with Chris hitting 57 and Dean 43. Jon Gibbons chipped in with 35 before coming back after tea to take 4-20 as the home side struggled for runs. Hakeem Dahou took 3-60 but St Pauls held on at 177-9
Glazebury 2nd are still looking for their first win after a poor batting performance at Hurst Lane.
Visitors Stalybridge St Pauls were dismissed for a modest 116, Mark Rowan taking 4-10. But Glazebury’s batting failed with only Rhys Marsh, 47 not out, keeping hopes alive and eventually they were all out for 103
Appleton suffered a heavy defeat at Lyons Lane when Old Parkonians bowled them out for 99, of which 42 were scored by Dom Smith.
Old Parkonians coasted to 100-2, Danny Oliver taking both wickets for 19 runs.
Appleton 2nd turned the tables however, dismissing Old Parkonians for 90, Michael Ormston 5-15. Appleton hit off the runs for the loss of two wickets.
There was a good win too for Appleton 4th who entertained Capenhurst and declared on 198-8, James Derbyshire 53 not out, Mike Wharton 50 and Andrew Thorley 40. The visitors were dismissed for 123, Q. Ahmed taking 6-42.
Stretton suffered a heavy defeat against visiting Haslington who declared on 205-8, despite Ben Clissold’s 4-61. Stretton were dismissed for 98/
