Record breaking dinner for Labour

WARRINGTON South Labour Party marked a new milestone when a record 128 guests from across Warrington joined Shadow Chancellor Ed Balls MP, for a gala dinner at the Halliwell Jones stadium.
The theme of the dinner was ‘Building a Better Warrington’ as the Shadow Chancellor was joined by Warrington South Parliamentary Spokesperson Nick Bent and Council Leader Cllr Terry O’Neill.
The visit by Ed Balls was to support the Labour Party’s efforts to win back the Warrington South parliamentary seat, which was won narrowly by the Tories in 2010.
Warrington South is one of the 40 most vulnerable Conservative seats in Britain and is being targeted by Labour.
The dinner took place in the Banqueting Suite at the Halliwell Jones – the venue had to be changed twice because demand for tickets was so high.
In addition to speeches by Ed Balls and Nick Bent, Council Leader Cllr Terry O’Neill also spoke and handed Ed Balls a copy of ‘Warrington Means Business’ – a new strategy launched by the Labour Council last month to promote Warrington’s status as an economic powerhouse and attract a multitude of further investment and business developments while creating and nurturing new opportunities within the town.
The 128 guests included a large number of Young Labour members and supporters, and the dinner was also a chance to showcase four talented young local people: Two musicians from Grappenhall (Meera Maharaj on flute and Seb Wyss on violin) played classical music as the guests arrived at the Halliwell Jones.
Two photography students from Priestley College, Molly McConnell and Oliver Garcia, were the official photographers for the evening.
This was the third visit to Warrington South by Ed Balls in less than three years, having previously visited Penketh High School during the 2012 General Election campaign and having met local residents at Whittle Hall Community Centre in February 2011.
Nick Bent, Parliamentary Spokesperson for Warrington South Labour Party, said “People in Warrington need a Labour Government again, and it was good to hear Ed Balls’s plans for how Labour would get our economy moving again, boost education and job opportunities for young people, and offer more support for middle-income families who work hard and play by the rules.”
