WARRINGTON’S local economy has received a major boost with news that affordable fashion retailer Primark is set to open in the town next year.
Work will start on opening a new store in Golden Square Shopping Centre in 2013, which will delight thousands of local shoppers who in a recent survey placed Primark at the top of their Warrington retail wish list.
“Shoppers have wanted to see a Primark in the town for a long time now and this is not only great news for them but for the whole of the town,” said Golden Square Shopping Centre General Manager, Ian Cox.
“Primark will be a superb addition to the top brands that already help bring tens of thousands of visitors to Golden Square every week,” he added.
The former Littlewoods store and the existing New Look store will amalgamate to house the new 56,000 sq ft Primark store which will stock womenswear, menswear, childrenswear and homeware.
New Look will be moving into a brand new concept store, located near H&M within the Shopping Centre, opening early 2013.
Praise for the successful deal has also come from Warrington Borough Council Leader, Councillor Terry O’Neill, (pictured right).
“This is a brilliant boost for the local economy,” he said.
“The announcement shows that big business has confidence in our town and we are thrilled that Primark has finally made the move.”
Cllr O’Neil added: “Retailers investing in Warrington is key to the lifeblood of the town and we hope that Primark’s arrival will enhance our existing offer even further.”

  1. I agree with you Gary. From my experience Primark draws in shoppers and that is a big plus for our town, and as a shop the ones that I have seen always seem to be busy, so they must be doing something right. It would be interesting to know how low their rent is, I should imagine that they drive a very hard bargain.

  2. This is great news for Shopers and the Town.

With three young boys we have often made destination trips to Chester, Manchester, and Liverpool specifically for Primark. only last week my missus spent £130 in the Manchester Store while I kept the Kids “entertained” in Pizza hut spending another £40 in the process…

lets hope Warrington starts to get the same benefits.

oh and on the first comment this will not affect the market in a negative way this will affect the cheap fashion retailers like Matalan, Asda-(George) and Tesco.

  3. Apparently its going to be a deal with job centre plus not many full time loads of part time though. Ive been told by the job centre keep asking when next sign they shud have news soon.
