Ups and downs of a wet summer

0

THE wettest summer in 100 years disrupted cricket in the Warrington area and elsewhere but – as reported by Warrington-Worldwide two weeks ago – it did not stop Grappenhall gaining promotion back to the ECB Premier division of the Cheshire County League as runners-up in Division One.
Grappenhall 2nd were in the chase for top spot in the 2nd XI Premier division but slipped towards the end of the season and finished third.
Grappenhall 3rd also came third in their division.
Warrington were not so fortunate.
After setting the pace in Division Two for most of the summer, they finished fourth – 35 points adrift from promotion.
Warrington 2nd came fourth in their division while Warrington 3rd had a respectable mid-table position at the close.
In the Meller Braggins Cheshire League, Lymm Oughtrington Park finished mid-table in Division Two, but their 2nd XI were champions in Division B, losing only one match all season.
Stretton finished fourth from the bottom of Division Three while Glazebury – promoted from the Cheshire Alliance only the year before – finished bottom and were relegated back down again!
It was tough on Glazebury 2nd who will go down with them, despite finishing fourth in Division C.
Appleton and Rylands held on to mid-table positions in the Cheshire Alliance First Division – Appleton securing just five points more than Rylands.
