EIGHT out of 10 people in Warrington are happy with their lot according to the Government’s first “Wellbeing Report.”
It is the first year that subjective questions on wellbeing have been included in the annual population survey.
Figures published by the Office of National Statistics (ONS) showed that 79.4 per cent of local people said they felt satisfied or very satisfied with their life – compared with a national figure of 75.9 per cent. In the North West only neighbouring Cheshire East scored higher than Warrington, with 81.2 per cent satisfaction levels.
Those living in city-regions tended to be less happy than those in more rural areas, for example residents of Cheshire were more cheery than those in Manchester or Liverpool.
Four questions were asked – How satisfied are you with your life nowadays? To what extent do you feel the things you do are worthwhile? How happy did you feel yesterday? How anxious did you feel yesterday?
Locally 69.7 per cent of respondents reported medium to high levels of happiness and 85.8 per cent felt the things they do are worthwhile or very worthwhile.
Cllr Mike Hannon, (pictured) deputy leader of Warrington Borough Council, said: “There’s a lot to be happy about living in Warrington. It is a fantastic town in which to live, visit, work and invest.”
ONS wellbeing project director Glenn Everett said: “Understanding people’s views of well-being is an important addition to existing official statistics and has potential uses in the policy making process and to aid other decision making.”
