FORTY volunteers from St John Ambulance – including some from Warrington – are providing cover at Olympic football matches at Old Trafford.
Among them is Lee Marsh, a volunteer for 18 years who in 2006 was awarded Queens Honours for his “services to mankind.”
A former deputy area commissioner for St John Ambulance, Lee has helped train thousands of people in life-saving skills, but there are still many people who don’t know what to do for a loved-one having a heart attack, stroke or suffering a severe cut.
He said: “We can all do more, we can all learn some first aid, we all want to be able to help a loved one in time of need.
“It’s a privilege to serve, to help those in need; to be part of organisations that support people when they are most vulnerable and helps them recover.
“Having been the senior St John Ambulance duty manager for the Manchester Commonwealth Games in 2002, I never thought I would get another opportunity like this.
“But here I am involved helping those who find themselves in need at the Olympic Games in 2012′.
