Anger over barn conversion plan

3

ANGRY councillors have lodged an objection to a farmer’s plan to convert a barn into two dwellings atWarrington.
Members of Appleton Parish Council say farmer John Bryan’s proposals at Birch Tree Farm, Red Lane, Appleton, would set a precedent for the conversion of other farm buildings in the area.
They claim the development is contrary to adopted policy and would be harmful to the Green Belt.
A neighbour has also objected and questioned whether two residential properties would have been allowed at the time the barn was given permission in 1984.
Planning officers are recommending the conversion be allowed however, however.

  1. Perhaps the planning officers need to get out and about. These barns were a big con. Apart from not having windows in, they were just like very large houses. There were two, so no doubt he will apply for the other one to be “converted”. I believe he has since built a couple more “barns” on the same plot.

  2. This particular “farmer” has also built other “barns” on other plots in Cheshire. What should be questioned here is just what kind of ‘exceptional circumstances’ can the planning officers have found for recommening the application which is, as the parish council says ” contrary to adopted policy” and “harmful to the Green Belt.”
